Consumer Fraud Alert!

Banking Customers Being Targeted State-Wide for Account Information

SIMSBURY, CT – March 4, 2013 – Simsbury Bank customers are among those being targeted state-wide by individuals attempting to steal consumer banking account information. So far, hundreds of Simsbury Bank customers are being called by individuals saying that their debit card has been frozen and asking them to provide their account number. These calls are fraudulent!

Once phone calls started coming in from concerned customers, Martin Geitz, President and CEO of Simsbury Bank immediately put a warning up on Simsbury Bank’s website that reads as follows: Simsbury Bank would never call you to request information about your account including your account number. Please do not respond to these calls.

“This is yet another reminder that the bank would never request confidential information over the phone, e-mail, or in text messages. Hang up the phone and contact your bank immediately, which is what we recommend,” said Geitz.

It appears that this is yet another case of what is referred to as “phishing”, which is an attempt to obtain debit card information from someone masquerading as a trustworthy entity. Apparently, according to ________ an anti-fraud group, this is happening to bank customers state-wide.

Simsbury Bank customers who may have questions or concerns can call the bank directly at (860) 658-2265, or visit their website at www.simsburybank.com.
