Simsbury Bank Donates To Granby's Memorial To The Heroes In The War On Terror

May 21, 2013 - Simsbury Bank is pleased to announce that it has made a donation to the Granby Memorial to the Heroes in the War on Terror.  The monument has been installed on the Granby Town Green and will be dedicated during the parade on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27th.

“We are very honored to be a part of this memorial to the brave Granby men and women who are fighting the important fight against terrorism,” said Jocelyn Mitchell, Vice President, Sr. Market Manager of Simsbury Bank’s Granby office.  James Hall, Adjutant of American Legion Shannon Shattuck Post, No. 182, said, “The community has come together to make this memorial possible and we appreciate the generous donations made by individuals and businesses such as Simsbury Bank.”

The memorial was proposed and sponsored by the American Legion Shannon Shattuck Post No 182.  The project was made possible by donations from individuals and businesses in the Granby community who raised the $18,000 for the monument.  The granite monument has been installed just to the east of the American Legion’s obelisk memorial on the Granby Town Green.  To date, only one Granby citizen has lost their life in the war on terrorism.  U.S. Army Specialist Richard Emmons III, who laid down his life for his country May 31, 2011 in Logar Province, Afghanistan, will be recognized on the monument.
